The Hartford Energy team has an extensive background in the development and commercialization of energy storage technologies. Members of the team have been awarded close to 100 patents and have brought to market a number of products and technologies. These include rechargeable battery and charging technologies, battery processing and manufacturing equipment, advanced composites and light metal alloys and power communication products.
The group is responsible for the research, development and international commercialization of the first rechargeable Zn-Mn02 "alkaline" battery, under the guidance of Wayne Hartford, Stephen Meldrum and electrochemist Dr. Karl Kordesch, the inventor of the single-use alkaline battery. Products have been sold world-wide to OEM and B2B customers and to many leading retailers.
While initial work focused on the commercialization of small format AAA, AA size batteries early development on large format batteries during this period showed great promise. In recent years several million dollars has been spent on its continued development.
The team’s experience includes work with multiple battery chemistries including zinc-manganese, zinc-air, nickel-metal-hydride, lithium-iron-phosphate, lithium nickel-manganese-cobalt and others. Products have ranged in size from coin cells, AAA and AA batteries to large-scale products used in commercial, industrial and electric vehicle applications.
